PERMITS
How
long does it take to review building plans for a house?
Building plans are usually reviewed within two (2)
working days of receipt.
When
does a Building Permit expire?
A building permit expires: a) by limitation, 180 days
after issuance, if no work has been started; b) by
limitation, if the work is abandoned for more than
180 days after an inspection of the work.
Can
I get a time extension on my building permit?
Yes. A permit, which has not expired, may be extended
once for 180 days, upon written request to the Building
Official
How
do I renew my permit? How much does it cost?
A new permit is required in order to continue work,
after expiration. As per the Code, the new permit
will cost one half the original fee, provided no changes
have been made and the permit has been suspended or
abandoned for less than one year. To renew a permit,
which has been expired more than one year, the cost
will be the full fee, as for a new permit. A permit,
which has not expired, may be extended once for 180
days, upon written request to the Building Official.
How
Much do permits cost?
Square footage is a key factor in determining permit
fees. Only after the Building Official has reviewed
the plans for a permit, can precise fees be determined
Do
I need a building permit to build a fence?
No. However, there are restrictions regarding height
and placement.
What
is a site/ plot plan?
A site/plot plan is a drawing of your lot showing
the size and shape of the property and everything
on it, both existing and proposed, drawn to scale
and showing distances to property lines and between
other elements such as buildings, fences, garage,
or other accessory structures. North arrow, street
name and address, legal description of property, and
location of water, gas, electric, and sewer should
also be shown on the drawing along with any easements
affecting the property. Topography showing relative
slope of the ground surface should be indicated either
by contour lines or by spot grades related to elevation
of a known point.

How
can I get an inspection?
After a permit is obtained and work is completed according
to the work schedule on the permit, call (928)368-8883
one working day prior to the day you would want the
inspection.
When
will I get an inspection?
Within the next working day. (e.g., Friday call in/Monday
inspection)
What
time of day will the inspector arrive?
Due to varying work schedules and staff availability,
only general arrival times can be given.
What
is needed for final inspection?
The project is to be completed according to the approved
plans. All electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural
installations must be completed.
What
is a Certificate of Occupancy and how do I obtain
one?
A Certificate of Occupancy is a formal document that
is issued when the project has been completed according
to the approved plans and certified correct by the
building inspector. Occupancy can only take place
after issuance of this certificate.
