Arbor Day Foundation Names Pinetop-Lakeside Tree City USA
Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ was named a 2012 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This is the 28th year Pinetop-Lakeside has earned the national designation.
Pinetop-Lakeside achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
“Everyone benefits when elected officials, volunteers and committee citizens in communities like Pinetop-Lakeside make smart investments in urban forests,” said John Rosenow, founder and chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Trees bring shade to our homes and beauty to our neighborhoods, along with numerous economic, social and environmental benefits.”
Cleaner air, improved storm water management, energy savings and increased property values and commercial activity are among the benefits enjoyed by Tree City USA communities.

NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
The Town of Pinetop-Lakeside is accepting letters of interest from persons interested in serving on the Advertising and Promotion Committee, which is responsible for guiding the tourism and marketing program for the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside. The Committee meets on a monthly basis, and holds occasional special meetings and work sessions. Individuals should have a background in private sector business. Currently there are six vacancies available for two-year terms expiring on July 26, 2015.

NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION VACANCY
The Community Development Department of the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside is currently accepting letters from interested individuals desiring to serve on the Planning & Zoning Commission, which is responsible for making recommendations to the Town Council on all matters related to amendments to the General Plan, or its related sub-plans, Town Zoning Codes, and Subdivision Regulations. The Planning & Zoning Commission also grants approval for Conditional Use Permits, Site Plans, and functions as the Design Review Board.
Interested persons should submit a letter of interest, including a statement of qualifications and any personal information they wish to provide to: Leah Chavez, Deputy Town Clerk, Town of Pinetop-Lakeside, 1360 N. Niels Hansen Lane, Lakeside, AZ 85929. Applicants must be a resident of the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside. Letters of interest must be submitted by 12:00 noon May 30, 2013. The successful candidates will be appointed to fill three vacancies for terms which expire July 24, 2016.
Summit Healthcare, in association with our Community Partner Frontier Communications, will Host the Fifth Annual Community Health and Resource Fair on Saturday, June 1
The Fifth Annual Community Health and Resource Fair will take place on June 1, 2013 from 9 -1. The Fair will include activities for children and adults alike! For the children, we will have a bike helmet fitting station, a "casting" clinic, an X-ray station for children to learn how to "read" x-rays (spot broken bones) and a Teddy Bear Clinic. At the Teddy Bear Clinic, children will have the opportunity to experience first-hand what might happen if they visited their doctor or the hospital emergency department. With the bear as the primary patient, this clinic can help soften the fear and anxiety young children feel when they visit their doctor or hospital by showing them that the hospital and the doctor's office are caring places. Teddy bears who need extra care can be sutured, bandaged, or splinted.
Health Screenings will be available for adults, including a FREE PSA Screening Clinic for the men. This screening will be held at the East Campus of Summit Healthcare. Cancer screening tests — including the prostate specific antigen (PSA) test to look for signs of prostate cancer can help identify cancer early on, when treatment is most effective. To schedule your appointment, please call 537.6949.
We will also be doing “Stroke Checks” on our Mobile Health Van. A Stroke Check includes testing Blood Pressure, BMI, Cholesterol, and Glucose (for best results, 8 hours of fasting is recommended). Due to time restrictions, only the first 50 people to arrive can be tested.
There will be other events too–Summit is hosting the Fifth Annual Salsa Competition along with a brats and hot dog BBQ lunch at the Chili Cookoff (great prices!). There is no charge to attend the Fifth Annual Community Health Fair, however there is a nominal charge for a booth at the fair or for competing in the salsa cookoff.
