Computer Basics Class Offered at Larson Library
(Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ – May 7, 2013) – Larson Library is offering a free class on computer basics, including computer terminology, computer parts, how to turn computers on/off, how to use a mouse, and how to navigate menus, etc. The class will meet from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15th in the Library Program Room. The class is free, but registration is required. This class will be taught by Library Automation Technician Clifton Foster and is presented in partnership with the Navajo County Library District and the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside. Healthy Families, Healthy Kids Class
(Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ – May 2, 2013) – Come to Larson Library on Thursday, May 16th from 10 to 10:30 a.m. for a free nutrition, cooking, and literacy class for families of children (age 0-5). This event is presented by First Things First, the University of Arizona Navajo County Cooperative Extension, and the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside. Bag O’Books Sale
(Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ – May 2, 2013) – Buy a bag for $5; then fill it with books! The Friends of Larson Library will be holding a used book bag sale during the months of May and June.
All proceeds support the library’s mission to provide access to information, materials, and services for community residents of all ages.

Fry Bread for Literacy
(Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ – April 17, 2013) – Come to Larson Library on Saturday, May 11th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to eat fry bread to support a great cause. Suggested donation is $5 per plate. We will show the hilarious movie, More Than Frybread (at 1 p.m., free admission), and have a raffle after the movie for a poster autographed by Writer/Director Holt Hamilton. All proceeds will go to support the reopening of McNary Community Library.
McNary Community Library has been closed for several years. The County Librarian has obtained a grant for a new building, but additional funding is still needed to get the facility ready to open. Can’t make it to the fundraiser? You can help by donating flour, plates, forks, napkins, beans, or soda prior to 5/11 or cash or check at any time (checks should be made payable to Navajo County Library District with a notation, “For McNary Library”). You can drop off any of these items at Larson Library (1595 Johnson Drive, Lakeside) or the Navajo County offices in Show Low (550 N. 9th Place – ask them to put the donations in Supervisor Dawnafe Whitesinger’s office). Donations can also be made online by credit card on the Library District’s Wishlist at www.navajocountylibraries.org.

Newspapers and Magazines at Larson Library
(Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ – March 20, 2013) – Did you know that Larson Library has over 70 newspapers and magazines? You can read this extensive collection in the library and even checkout up to five magazines at a time, including popular magazines such as Good Housekeeping, National Geographic, People, and Taste of Home.
We’ve also recently added several popular new titles, including Entertainment Weekly, ESPN the Magazine, Real Simple, This Old House, Us Weekly, and USA Today.

Children’s Activities at Larson Library
(Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ – March 20, 2013) – Looking for something to do with the kids? Larson Library offers a number of family-friendly activities every week, including:
Tiny Tots Story Time – join us every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. for story time, which incorporates music, activities, and books to help children (ages 0 to 3 years) develop motor skills, peer interaction, and a love for stories. Parents are encouraged to participate with their children.
Family Fun Story Time – join us every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. for story time, which incorporates books, music, activities, and crafts to help children (ages 3 and up) develop a love for literacy and learning. Younger children are welcome, but the story time is geared toward older children.
Paws for Reading – this program allows any child (ages 4 to 17), who can read out loud (with minimal help) to read to a trained Therapy dog in a nonjudgmental, stress free, and safe environment. Call us to schedule your 15 minute appointment – spots are available every Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m.
We also offer a free Movie of the Month on the 2nd Saturday of every month at 3:00 p.m. And keep your eyes open for our annual Summer Reading Program, starting on June 4.
